Pumpkin is the founding member of the Bridle Paths herd, joining us in September 2010 following a career as a hunter show pony. Pumpkin often struggles with anxiety (perhaps because his feelings regarding the challenges of his former competitive career frequently were discounted); this anxiety generally manifests as moving quickly, both on the ground and under saddle. He is generally quiet and unassuming, though this can be mistaken for being “aloof” or “disconnected.” He works extensively with participants with anxiety, where his gentle nature and smaller stature invite profound personal connections. As he’s aged, Pumpkin has developed allergic, metabolic, and orthopedic challenges for which he receives daily over-the-counter and prescription medication.
Pumpkin’s extensive training helps teach the subtleties of seat, leg and rein aids to our students. His sensitivity is also helpful in psychotherapy sessions, as clients learn to read and convey nonverbal cues from the horses.
