Torda is a kind, thoughtful mare whose herd mates are Sunup and Lucy. For her human participants and horse counterparts alike, she offers the gifts of being fully seen, heard, and understood.
Torda is truly a jack-of-all-trades. She began her sport horse career on the racetrack (though her tattoo has become illegible over time, making it difficult to determine whether she raced as a Thoroughbred or as a Quarter Horse). After her racing days, Torda found her calling in the sport of polo, where she competed at the highest level of the game, including the prestigious U.S. Open, under renowned professional player Sugar Erskine. Often described as "hockey on horseback," polo demands speed, agility, athleticism, and an intense competitive spirit. In her prime, Torda was known as a "fire-breathing freight train," a powerhouse athlete who could stop and turn on a dime, fearlessly challenge other horses, and thrive under the pressure and excitement of competition. After many successful years at the top of the sport, Torda transitioned to medium-low goal polo with one of Sugar's protégés before eventually stepping into a teaching role, helping introduce beginner riders and players to the game she loved. Even after retiring from polo, Torda made it clear she wasn't ready to leave her work with people behind. Her love for connection and purpose ultimately led her to Bridle Paths, where she continues to share her wisdom, heart, and experience with those around her. Torda’s calm demeanor and careful approach make her ideally suited to teach basic riding skills to our youngest riders. In the EAL and EAP realms, she helps trauma survivors to find their voices, show up with courage, and engage with clarity and authenticity.
