Pumpkin is gentle and approachable, and helps inexperienced volunteers and participants alike to build skills and confidence in interacting with horses. When he’s not working in sessions, he enjoys a good nap in his stall.
Pumpkin is the founding member of the Bridle Paths herd, joining us in September 2010 following a career as a hunter show pony. Pumpkin often struggles with anxiety (perhaps because his feelings regarding the challenges of his former competitive career frequently were discounted); this anxiety generally manifests as moving quickly, both on the ground and under saddle. He is generally quiet and unassuming, though this can be mistaken for being “aloof” or “disconnected.” He works extensively with participants with anxiety, where his gentle nature and smaller stature invite profound personal connections. As he’s aged, Pumpkin has developed allergic, metabolic, and orthopedic challenges for which he receives daily over-the-counter and prescription medication.
