Lisa mucked stalls and groomed horses in exchange for riding lessons as a teen, and it was that that she experienced the healing power that horses and humans bring each other firsthand. She shared this with others when she joined The Arc of Loudoun, and the organization acquired Project Horse Empowerment Center as part of their efforts to redefine ‘disability’ to include any type of mental health challenge, whether chronic or acute. Lisa learned the science behind equine-assisted education and therapy through her involvement with Project Horse. She brings her passion for healing, her breadth of experience in the Loudoun County nonprofit space, and deep love for the beauty and power of human- horse relationships to Bridle Paths.
She is a community fixture who generously shares her time with several organizations, supporting a diverse mix of communities and causes throughout Northern Virginia. She has served on the board of directors and as advisory board chair for the Northern Virginia Science Center Foundation, as a member of the Loudoun County Multicultural Advisory Committee, and as an advisory board member of the Loudoun County Medical Reserve Corps, in addition to her role on the board of directors at Bridle Paths.
Lisa had a long and successful career in the technology sector with companies such as Nortel Government Solutions, Telos Identify Management Solutions, Pragmatic, and Xybion Medical Systems before joining The Arc of Loudoun as their CEO in 2018, where she works to create a just, equitable world for people with disabilities.
She is a native of Northern New Jersey and an alumna of Upsala College, where she studied Humanities. She lives in Ashburn with her rescue pets, two dogs and an African Grey Parrot. She is a voracious reader who loves to travel, cook, eat, and spend time with her family.
“A horse taught me one of the most important life lessons I’ve ever learned: “slow down to go fast”. As someone who’s always running from thought to thought and place to place, caring for horses reminds me that by slowing down and staying calm, things are accomplished faster and with much less stress.”
